A New Tribander for PJ2T

Thanks to Gary, K9SG, who is a past member of the CCC, we now have a newer, better antenna to use as a fixed tribander at PJ2T.  If you’ve operated at PJ2T you know we have Really Big Arrays to use in the very high-traffic directions – pointed at the United States and Europe.  (In fact you’re probably aware by now that we are completely upgrading the Europe Array).  In order to cover other important directions, we use a selection of other fixed and rotary antennas which require care and feeding too.  Gary, who was active at PJ2T from 2003 to 2011, has given the club a Bencher Skyhawk.  Geoff picked it up near Indianapolis in May and transported it to his Ohio QTH.  There he evaluated it, brought it to spec, and prepared it for transport to Signal Point, where it is destined to take its place of honor as our new fixed Pacific Tribander.  From Ohio, it will be transported by Mark, N5OT, to Miami as part of a larger shipment of hardware and supplies bound for the Island.  This is a superb antenna mechanically and electrically, and we much appreciate Gary’s gift.

Thanks, Gary!

The Bencher Skyhawk is a modern tribander with a great future at PJ2T

This is the usual HUGE amount of work until this antenna is on the air in Curacao, but it will be well worth it and we are very grateful to K9SG and K9LZJ for this gift. This is the antenna I picked up in Indiana on the way to Dayton. I bought the parts that were missing and we’ll get it together and in service in Curacao as the new Pacific mult antenna hopefully this fall. And I am fabricating a stainless and aluminum mount for it so it will truly point west.
